GLAM Edge - Developing Graduates Employability Skills

The University of Glamorgan has a great reputation with employers; we are well known for providing graduates with the right skills for today’s fast-changing world of employment.

In close consultation with key employers in the region, the University is developing an innovative Employability Development Programme, Glam Edge, that formally provides students with the opportunity to develop a distinctive ‘edge’ to enable them to stand out from the crowd, not just for that first job but through their career.

Four year power sector technology innovation programme opens

A four-year government-funded programme that aims to develop new technologies to help meet the needs of the UK’s future power systems will kick-off with investment of £2.4 million in feasibility studies that will stimulate innovation in automated power distribution and demand management.

The funding competition is the first element of a planned portfolio of investment into power network innovations and forms the exploratory phase of the programme, which will be funded and managed by the government’s innovation agency, the Technology Strategy Board.

Glamorgan students invest time in the trading room

University of Glamorgan Students in the Faculty of Business and Society are getting hands on experience of trading on the stock exchange without the risk of losing real money. The University’s new simulated ‘trading room’, which uses a software package called TraderEx, allows business and accounting students to develop all the skills needed for a career in stocks and shares before they graduate

According to security firm Symantec, the annual cost of cyber-crime has surpassed that of marijuana, cocaine and heroin combined – totalling in excess of $388 billion, across 24 countries. With 750 million active global users Facebook is a powerful communication tool for both businesses and individuals alike, but at what cost? The security implications and personal vulnerabilities that exist on social networks are a huge concern, and a workshop at the University of Glamorgan held on Tuesday 20th September has addressed these issues.

Glamorgan and Cyfle join forces to provide creative industries training

The University of Glamorgan has formed a partnership with private training organisation Cyfle to provide courses in the creative industries.

The University’s Cardiff School of Creative & Cultural Industries will provide accreditation for training delivered by Cyfle, who work to provide a gateway into the media industry for newcomers along with practical training support for industry professionals.
