HPC Wales are pleased to announce two funding opportunities to support your research projects.

1. The first is for PhD Studentships There are 6 remaining across Wales, to a maximum value of £75k, submission deadline 31st May

2. The second is for Research and Innovation Grants There are 20 to 25 remaining across Wales , to a maximum value of £12k to £15k, submission deadline also 31st May

VENTUREFEST WALES

The University of South Wales has partnered with Cardiff Council, Finance Wales, Technology Strategy Board, Welsh Government, Cardiff University and Wales Business Insider to stage the first Venturefest event in Wales.

A networking event which aims to turn business ideas into reality, entrepreneurs, directors of high growth companies, academics and investors will come together in July to debate issues faced by ambitious, high-growth firms including innovation, investment, people, commercial models and collaboration.

The event will feature a keynote address by Nic Weng Kan, managing director of comparison website business Confused.com and a panel of experienced entrepreneurs.

New IP App developed by the IPO, IP Wales and Swansea University

Although primarily developed with Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in mind, you may be interested in this new FREE App which can help you identify and understand IP (Intellectual Property).

The content of the App has been designed to answer the most common questions and queries that arise around IP, with much of the information gathered from the enquiries received from both businesses and the public by the IPO’s Information Centre.

Rather than overwhelming you with information, the App has been created to provide you with a basic overview of IP as a guide to help you put the pieces of IP together. It also contains some great tips and topics for the use of IP in your project or business.

The App also provides a great platform on which to view the latest news and developments in the IP world, with access to news and Twitter feeds as well as the IP Insight online magazine.

The IP App is available to download now from the Apple store itunes and Android App store .

Four year power sector technology innovation programme opens

A four-year government-funded programme that aims to develop new technologies to help meet the needs of the UK’s future power systems will kick-off with investment of £2.4 million in feasibility studies that will stimulate innovation in automated power distribution and demand management.

The funding competition is the first element of a planned portfolio of investment into power network innovations and forms the exploratory phase of the programme, which will be funded and managed by the government’s innovation agency, the Technology Strategy Board.

Workshop aims to help businesses fight cyber-crime

With 750 million active global users Facebook is a powerful communication tool for both businesses and individuals alike, but at what cost? The security implications and personal vulnerabilities that exist on social networks are a huge concern, and a workshop at the University of Glamorgan held on Tuesday 20th September has addressed these issues.
